Sample Essay
As is vividly depicted in the drawing, two university students are looking at a poster about a campus lecture. They hold entirely different attitudes towards it. One student dismisses the event, saying, "It is not related to our major, so it is of little use." The other, however, disagrees and argues, "It will definitely be beneficial to go and listen."
The metaphorical meaning of this picture is profound: it highlights the significance of acquiring interdisciplinary knowledge and broadening one's horizons. In today's rapidly changing society, sticking solely to one's own major is far from enough. Cross-disciplinary learning allows students to develop comprehensive capabilities and innovative thinking. Those who are only confined to their specific fields, like the first student, may find it difficult to adapt to the complex demands of the modern world. Conversely, attending various lectures can inspire new ideas and open doors to unexpected opportunities.
In my opinion, college students should be open-minded and actively participate in diverse academic activities. On the one hand, universities should organize more high-quality cross-disciplinary lectures to stimulate students' intellectual curiosity. On the other hand, we students must step out of our academic comfort zones and embrace knowledge from different fields. Only by becoming well-rounded individuals can we thrive in the future.
