It is easy to underestimate English writer James Herriot. He had such a pleasant, readable style that one might think that anyone could imitate it. 

How many times have I heard people say, "I could write a book. I just havent the time." Easily said. Not so easily done. 

James Herriot, contrary to popular opinion, did not find it easy in his early days of, as he put it, "having a go at the writing game". While he obviously had an abundance of natural talent, the final, polished work that he gave to the world was the result of years of practising, re-writing and reading. 

Like the majority of authors, he had to suffer many disappointments and rejections along the way, but these made him all the more determined to succeed. Everything he achieved in life was earned the hard way and his success in the literary field was no exception.

Part 3: Syntax Analysis (重点句型剖析)

02 句型拆解：such... that... 结果状语从句
主干为 He had such a pleasant, readable style that...，这是典型的 such... that...（如此……以至于……）句型。在 that 引导的结果状语从句中，主语是 one（泛指人们），谓语是 might think，其后又跟了一个由 that 引导的宾语从句 that anyone could imitate it。

05 句型拆解：双重插入语
主句的主语是 James Herriot，谓语是 did not find it easy。在这句话中包含了两个插入语：一个是主语之后的 contrary to popular opinion（与大众的看法相反）；另一个是在介词 of 之后的 as he put it（正如他所说）。动名词短语 having a go at the writing game 是介词 of 的宾语。
