My dream has always been to work somewhere in an area between fashion and publishing. Two years before graduating from secondary school, I took a sewing and design course thinking that I would move on to a fashion design course. 

However, during that course I realized I was not good enough in this area to compete with other creative personalities in the future, so I decided that it was not the right path for me. 

Before applying for university I told everyone that I would study journalism, because writing was, and still is, one of my favourite activities. But, to be honest, I said it, because I thought that fashion and me together was just a dream - I knew that no one could imagine me in the fashion industry at all! 

So I decided to look for some fashion-related courses that included writing. This is when I noticed the course "Fashion Media & Promotion."

02Two years before graduating from secondary school, I took a sewing and design course thinking that I would move on to a fashion design course.▶

在中学毕业前两年，我参加了一门缝纫和设计课程，心想以后我会继续学习时尚设计课程。

03However, during that course I realized I was not good enough in this area to compete with other creative personalities in the future, so I decided that it was not the right path for me.▶

然而，在那门课程中，我意识到自己在这一领域还不够优秀，未来无法与其他富有创造力的人竞争，所以我决定那不是适合我的道路。

04Before applying for university I told everyone that I would study journalism, because writing was, and still is, one of my favourite activities.▶

在申请大学之前，我告诉所有人我将学习新闻学，因为写作过去是、现在依然是我最喜欢的活动之一。

05But, to be honest, I said it, because I thought that fashion and me together was just a dream - I knew that no one could imagine me in the fashion industry at all!▶

06So I decided to look for some fashion-related courses that included writing.▶

Part 3: Syntax Analysis (重点句型剖析)

02 句型拆解：现在分词作伴随状语
句首 Two years before graduating from secondary school 是时间状语，其中 graduating 是动名词作介词 before 的宾语。主干为 I took a sewing and design course。后面的 thinking that I would move on to... 是现在分词短语作伴随状语（表心理状态），其中 that 引导了宾语从句作 thinking 的宾语。

03 句型拆解：并列句与省略引导词的宾语从句
这是一个由 so 连接的并列句。前半句中，I realized 后面省略了引导词 that，直接跟了宾语从句 I was not good enough... to compete with...，其中不定式 to compete 用来补充说明 enough（不够优秀到可以去竞争）。后半句为 so I decided that...，that 引导宾语从句说明决定的内容。

04 句型拆解：双重谓语插入与原因状语从句
句首 Before applying for university 是时间状语。主句为 I told everyone that I would study journalism，that 引导宾语从句。逗号之后由 because 引导原因状语从句，值得注意的是，从句中插入了 , and still is, 形成复合谓语结构（过去是，并且现在依然是），这让句子在时间维度上更加严谨。

05 句型拆解：独立成分与破折号的解释说明
to be honest 是不定式短语作独立成分（老实说）。主干 I said it 之后，because 引导了原因状语从句 because I thought that...。在破折号之后，I knew that no one could imagine me... 进一步解释了前面“为什么说只是个梦想”的深层原因，at all 用于否定句末加强语气（根本不）。

07 句型拆解：表语从句
主干为 This is when I noticed the course...。这里 when 引导的是一个表语从句，作系动词 is 的表语。This 指代上一句中“我决定寻找相关课程”的这个时候。
